Since being founded in 2005, AgGateway has provided the means for the agriculture industry to make great strides in eConnectivity, such as:
- Crop Protection
75% of industry order-to-invoice, inventory and sales reporting transactions between manufacturers and distributors are now electronic. There is movement in Canada for Canadian companies to also connect with the order-to-invoice processes. In addition, a number of the crop protection manufacturers are sending their product price sheets electronically so that their customers don’t have to key in the current price
eConnectivity has been established among a number ofdistributors, retailers and manufacturers for shipping, invoicing and reporting; 20 companies are now involved in Phase II of the connectivity process, which includes the price sheet, seed bookings and orders.
- Crop Nutrition
eConnectivity for contracts, ordering, shipping, shipment status and invoicing was completed among 4 distributors and 4 manufacturers; 10 companies now involved in Phase II to expand the same messages to more trading partners. The industry has worked with a number of state control officials to standardize a tonnage reporting message. For the June 2013, 3 states and 1 distributor went live with the “proof of concept” pilot. The states and industry will be working toward a goal of “Paperless Tonnage Reporting by the end of 2016”.
Standards and guidelines have been developed for radio frequency ID implementation.
Standardizing the data being exchanged at the farm level is important to the grower, especially when they use a number of various Farm Management Information System (FMIS). The SPADE (Standardized Precision Ag Data Exchange) Project
has completed the documentation of the seeding operations processes; they have defined the data that will be passed between any Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS), and other systems including controllers on equipment. They have defined many components of the reference data API and completed a proof of concept demonstration.
The SPADE2 project takes the learning in SPADE and leverages them. This project will focus on harvest operational process; working out more details of the seed data; addressing crop inputs, and developing a transformation tool kit.
