Project Planning Working Group Update:  Jeff Keiser

Manager, Business Development, Accelerated Innovation Process, Enterprise, Advanced Marketing, John Deere

Jeff is interested in how field data and spatial technologies create market value for crop production, agricultural products and services. He began his career as a farm manager and ag lendor. When precision ag was in its infancy (circa 1990) Jeff pioneered the use of GPS and GIS systems with Variable Rate Application within the ag input supply industry. Soon afterwards he innovated new methods for the use of remote sensing technologies to access and amend crop health. Jeff has spent considerable time engaging the marketplace discovering new producer benefits that stem from data exchange standards, as well as the use of precision farming data for various crop reporting needs. He now is focused on rapid generation of innovative product concepts that compliment the needs of various market segments in agriculture, turf, construction and forestry.

Work Accomplishments/Successes
  • Pioneered the use of new technologies for growers and agribusinesses that created new value with traditional agronomy practices. (e.g. -intensive soil sampling, image-based N application, automated crop reporting)
  • Designed systems and user-interface to integrate spatial data at various resolutions with crop models for improved decision efficiency and effectiveness
  • Lead development and market release of precision Ag products and services using remotely sensed data. Utilized optical sensors from space-borne, aerial, and land-based platforms (e.g. QuickBird, Ikonos, GreenSeeker, Veris).

SPADE Project Update: Joe Tevis
Director, Agronomic Products and Services, Topcon Precision Agriculture

Joe received a PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State University in 1991 studying computational fluid mechanics. He began his career in precision agriculture as a Post Doctoral Research appointment at Texas A&M University studying the spatial distribution and management of agronomic variables in cotton. He started work at Ag Chem Corporation in 1995 as SGIS product and support manager. In 2001 AgChem was acquired by AGCO. He continued in various positions within AGCO including Director of the initial cross brand and cross functional and cross brand precision farming technology group in AGCO. In 2011 Dr. Tevis was employed by Topcon Precision Agriculture as Director, Agronomic Products and Services. In Topcon he continues to work with agronomic software including SGIS. Dr. Tevis also represents Topcon in two data standards groups. For AgGateway he serves as chair of the SPADE project and also serves on the AEF/ISO DDMA committee.
