The RFID device serves the same purpose as a bar code; it provides a unique identifier for that object. And, just as a bar code must be scanned to get the information, the RFID device must be scanned to retrieve the identifying information.
As RFID gains popularity, the implications for the Agriculture industry are becoming increasingly apparent. Standards are critical for RFID applications, such as tracking goods or containers in open supply chains.
The objectives of this project will be:
- Investigate current RFID standards for the purpose of developing guidelines for the application of RFID in the Agricultural industry.
- Develop use cases for an RFID implementation.
- Develop RFID guidelines for air interface protocols, data content, security, and applications.
Updates:
The task force will be meeting before the end of the month to work on commitment letter with plans to have the commitment letter out by the end of January. Target is to have a set of guidelines available by the Committees, Councils & Project (CCP) meeting in the summer.
