The AG Industry Identification System (AGIIS) Directory is a database system that houses Agricultural e-business data for industry subscribers. CSC (http://www.csc.com) developed and provides hosting and management services on behalf of AgGateway. Prior to AGIIS, the membership organization of RAPID managed three separate and unique eBusiness directories that contained data for products, trading partners, and farmer/grower. AGIIS is the result of a redesign of these three directories into one consolidated relational database. The new database contains the elements of all three former directories plus additional data elements and enhanced functionality. The AGIIS Directory began operation on Monday, August 18, 2003. AgGateway is committed to enabling and facilitating the implementation of e-business in Agriculture. The AGIIS Directory's technical architecture provides a repository for industry common data elements and serves as the fundamental building block for making efficient industry electronic business a reality. With common, well-defined and properly maintained industry data, existing business inefficiencies and their related costs can be significantly reduced.
