Portfolio Manager

Position Title: Portfolio Manager (Contract Position)

Job Summary:

AgGateway is a non-profit trade association leading the agriculture industry's transition to digital connectivity. We develop and implement digital resources produced collaboratively by volunteers from our 200 dues-paying member organizations. AgGateway facilitates and manages these collaborative Working Groups, and communicates successful outcomes to the industry. Together, these outcomes represent the AgGateway Portfolio.

The Portfolio Manager plays a critical role, overseeing the entire digital resources development process. In this contracted role, the Portfolio Manager works closely with other AgGateway staff including the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Marketing and Communications, Executive Vice President/COO, and the President/CEO.

Responsibilities: 

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for the content and management of the AgGateway work portfolio, including the working groups that develop digital resources. The Portfolio Manager is also responsible for managing the tools used to capture, monitor, maintain, and report against such work. The process often involves developing and refining templates with an application, recommending changes to tools, or requesting budget needed to support the portfolio and its working groups.

The Portfolio Manager is an active convener of working groups. In this capacity, the Portfolio Manager may be required to assist in recruiting volunteer leaders, developing case statements, and/or scheduling working sessions to support the efforts of Working Groups. The Portfolio Manager performs these same duties for the Portfolio Management Team, which consists of member volunteers as defined in the applicable Policies and Procedures. The Portfolio Manager works with member companies to identify candidates for consideration as members of the Team and brings nominees to the Board of Directors for approval and appointment.

Other important duties of the Portfolio Manager include:

  • Develop and socialize reports, dashboards, and other resources that are used to promote awareness of AgGateway’s portfolio of ideas, working group activities, and other team efforts that deliver valuable output.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to ensure members and industry are informed of Working Group progress.
  • Work in close coordination with the Chief Technical Officer in that Officer’s capacity as Digital Resource Center leader to ensure that the Digital Resource Development Process is followed and that digital resources developed through the portfolio are correctly handled.
  • Travel approximately 10 times per year, including required attendance at the two organization-wide events each year. Duties as assigned by the President and/or the Executive Vice President, or to fulfill needs of the organization.

Qualifications: The Portfolio Manager should:

  • Possess significant working experience with project and portfolio management processes, practices and tools;
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills in order to understand member reporting needs and expectations;
  • Know how to develop and foster a sense of teamwork and community among staff and volunteers;
  • Possess strong meeting facilitation skills, including tools and best practices for both in-person and online meetings;
  • Be a clear and effective communicator with strong verbal and writing skills;
  • Have experience developing and managing against a budget;
  • Have experience in effectively leading and/or facilitating meetings as applicable.

It is preferred, but not required, that the Portfolio Manager possess Project Management Professional certification.
