Latin America Update

By Jose Alexandre Loyola, Regional Director – Latin America

AgGateway Latin America held a membership meeting on February 15, where participants discussed which association projects would be focused on in the year ahead. Sector meetings will be scheduled for later this month, which will center on identifying and prioritizing pain points and challenges in collecting climate data and improving connectivity. Members will be invited to join Working Groups to move the process forward.

On the communication front, the organization recently brought on a digital marketing professional to help promote AgGateway Latin America. Journalist Daniel Azevedo, who has extensive experience in social media and agriculture technology, has been contracted to provide consultancy and support in the creation of content and conducting online broadcasts on YouTube together with Regional Director José Alexandre Loyola.

I am also pleased to announce a partnership with the Brazilian Association of Precision Agriculture Companies (AsBraAP), an associate member of AgGateway Latin America, to participate in CONBAP 2022 - National Congress of Precision Agriculture that will take place in Campinas/SP - Brazil, 9 -11 August 2022, where we will have a booth to engage with technology companies that visit the event.

Finally, to provide some perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and pain points on digital agriculture adoption in Latin America and the Caribbean, I’d like to share the link below to an article written by the Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAR). The article, titled “How do Family Farmers Perceive Digital Solutions in the LAC Region,” highlights research carried out with a few hundred small family farmers in the Latin American and Caribbean.
